Guthrie, Oklahoma

Vintage charm, beautiful parks, exciting festivals and friendly people make Guthrie the ideal American small town.  Home to 11,000 residents, Guthrie provides a quiet and comfortable lifestyle, with the amenities of Edmond and Greater Oklahoma City just a short car trip away.  Founded in 1889 as the territorial capital of Oklahoma, Guthrie features a stunning Victorian-era downtown, with plentiful shopping, dining, museums and art galleries. All around Guthrie, you’ll find stately homes built during the town’s heyday as territorial capital – and for a short time – state capital.   Although the capital moved to Oklahoma City in 1910, the town hasn’t forgotten its place in Oklahoma history, and celebrates that history every April during the “89er Days” festival, and year round in its numerous history museums. In fact, downtown Guthrie is in itself the largest contiguous historic district in the country, making it the perfect place to just stroll around and enjoy.

Guthrie’s attractions aren’t just limited to the downtown area. Just east of downtown is beautiful Highland Park, which features hiking trails, ponds, tennis courts, picnic areas and a swimming pool. Guthrie Lake, located on the south side of town, has plenty of opportunities for fishing, camping, picnicking and more. A bit further south of Guthrie Lake lies the Lazy E Arena, Oklahoma’s premier venue for rodeo and western-themed events. Guthrie is also home to one of the region’s few remaining drive-in movie theatres, “The Beacon.”

In Guthrie, you can find anything, from a Victorian manor to an early 20th century Craftsman cottage; an attractive, modern home near Guthrie Lake, to a large ranch house with lots of room for a horse!  Add to this an abundance of nice parks, live entertainment, good schools and a low cost of living and you’ll find that Guthrie is a great community in which to live, work, play and raise a family.
